Drain Doctor North-West - Giving Back To The Local Community
Drain Doctor Preston & Drain Doctor South Cumbria have a long and established tradition of supporting both local charities, clubs & good causes that benefit our local communities.
We are very proud and pleased to be able to sponsor and support many projects throughout the year.
Drain Doctor pedals for Prostate Cancer UK
During what is likely to be declared the hottest UK summer on record the annual RideLondon-Surrey event, a 46-mile winding cycle through London, began in a downpour.
Managing director Kevin Preston stood on the start line in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the second time. Last year he completed the route alongside other franchisees from across the Drain Doctor network in aid of Ronald McDonald House Charities. This year he brought family.
The journey began months before when Kevin, his daughter’s partner and his son set about training and fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK.
‘It did get a little competitive,’ he says. ‘We’d share practice run times and comment on how each other did. When we met our fundraising goal, we doubled it.’
Exceeding expectations is something that has been ingrained into the Drain Doctor working culture over more than 25 years of dealing with all manner of drainage problems. As has giving back to the local communities, with employees regularly contributing to fundraising activities for charities such as MacMillan, Cancer Research UK, and Comic Relief.
On race day, the total sum raised crossed £1,500, eventually reaching £1,680.
46 miles and around 35,000 turns of a bicycle tyre later, with the rain abated and a blue sky breaking over Buckingham Palace, they were done.
‘It wasn’t a race,’ Kevin says, 'Or so the others tell me.’
‘For all the fun we had, the fundraising is the most important part. We’re just glad we're able to do our bit.'
Maybe it’ll be 100 miles next year.
Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition: to stop men dying from prostate cancer – by driving improvements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support.

Dust Till Dawn Challenge!
in aid of Mongolia 2018 a project which the kids have to fundraise to be part of a n expedition to Mongolia where they spend three trekking and working on a community project to help local children.
On Sat 21st May set out at dusk from Ambleside to row the 21miles from one end of lake Windermere to the other.
The team set off in near idyllic conditions stopping at Bowness to snack on fish and chips before continuing on to Fell Foot and the end of the lake.
The return journey took slightly longer due to the thunder and lightning and the drop of visibility to less than 20m which made navigation extremely difficult. A safety stop of an hour to let the worst of the storm pass meant the team did not reach Brockhole until 3.30am.
At this time the team left the boats and began the 6.5 mile climb up Wansfell. This climb was described by one of the challengers as the worst experience of her life quickly replaced by the euphoria of reaching the top .
The team then returned to the boats about 7am and rowed the few remaining miles to Ambleside finishing at Dawn.
